Richard Carved his first piece of glass a folding screen in December of 1986 after a 3-month apprenticeship at Joan of Art Studios in Hollywood Fl. He still remembers how nervous he was to be actually working on a customer’s job. This was the beginning of a 33-year journey in art glass.
He opened Glass Menagerie Inc. in May 1990 and the company has become well known for its very creative designs and high-quality finished products. Since Glass Menagerie Art Studio is located in sunny Florida – Richard specializes in tropical themes. All glass artwork is designed and produced in house by Richard and his very talented staff.
As a Glass Artist, Richard May is now celebrating 31 years of decorative etched and stained glass design and artwork. He is famous for his creativity and uncompromised glass etching service. He does all-glass etching and carved glass artwork himself. He has unique techniques for his glass etching that makes the designs come to life.

Custom stained windows & coloured glass artwork samples:
Coloured or stained glass technique require very skilled and detail oriented artist. Creation of an authentic, high-quality stained glass doors panels or windows is extremely time-consuming. Each colored piece of glass must be shaped to fit around each individual piece – then it is positioned to match the design. Once the glass composition is completed the entire artwork must be assembled & soldered together with the lead. The channels are sealed using cement putty to ensure it is rigid and rattle free.
